Matilda's school life isn't completely smooth sailing, however – the school's mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don't abide by her rules. DOLLY PARTON’S 9 TO 5

Book by Patricia Resnick

Music & lyrics by Dolly Parton

The musical the pandemic closed down finally comes to the Tidewater Stage! Based on the iconic 1980 movie, three female coworkers at odds with each other form an unlikely friendship and, through a series of unplanned catastrophes, exact revenge on their vile boss. Resnick’s screenplay was ahead of its time as she defined the working conditions of 1970s women stuck in a proverbial “pink-collar ghetto”. Confined to secretarial and menial mid-level management positions, supervisor Violet, hapless trainee Judy, and the boss’s secretary Doralee pushed to their collective limits, define their own course as they fantasize about getting even with their bane of a boss, the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot Franklin Hart. When their frustration-fueled fantasies accidentally begin coming true, the trio realizes they have the power in their midst to change everything necessary to improve the horrific work conditions for themselves and their put-upon coworkers. From the moment the curtain rises on Dolly Parton’s classic toe-tapping theme song, sit back and watch these girls–make those women!–charge a new future for working women everywhere, all to a flashy new score of the music you’ve come to expect from Parton.

TIDEWATER PLAYERS is thrilled to announce

our February Production of Alan Menken and Howard Ashman’s classic musical comedy thriller

LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS

A deviously delicious Broadway salute to the Hollywood sci-fi smash musical, Little Shop Of Horrors has devoured the hearts of theatre audiences for 40 years. Based on Roger Corman’s classic 1960s B movie, Howard Ashman and Alan Menken (Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Beauty And The Beast, and Aladdin) provide a masterpiece of Faustian proportion set to the beat of a powerhouse score inspired by the best sounds of the 60s, which nobody does better than Menken & Ashman. Watch as lowly green thumb Seymour tries to win the heart of down and out coworker Audrey with a strange and interesting new plant he has cultivated. As the plant becomes famous and Seymour a success, he is faced with making a devilish deal that could win him everything–or cost him the things he loves most. Menken & Ashman’s now-classic score features hits such as “Downtown”, audience favorite “Suddenly Seymore”, and the catchy, finger-snapping title song

Little Shop of Horrors is presented by arrangement with Musical Theater International.
